Impact on our communities
Lower Mainland residents have a lot to lose if the #1 Highway expansion proceeds. In Vancouver, this means a huge influx of traffic on 1st Ave, 12th Ave, and Hastings and through adjoining neighbourhoods. It would also increase the pressure to further widen roads, or even build a new freeway to Downtown, through our communities.
Neighbourhoods bordering highway access points will be subject to:

Increased traffic and noise;

Deterirating local businesses;

More debilitating pollution from car exhaust;

Land expropriations to accommodate bigger interchanges.
Expanded roadways through our neighbourhoods will destroy our communities, local businesses and our quality of life.
This is not smart planning.
